Saving a Project

A project keeps a recording together with everything you have added to it — your edits, markers, and the source media it was assembled from — in a single .vvproj file. Saving as a project is the right choice while you are still working: nothing is flattened, and you can pick the work up again later.

When you save a session that is stored as a project — with File  Save As, or the first time you save it with File  Save — the Save Project As dialog box appears.

A project is a working file, not a finished result. To create an audio or video file you can hand to someone else, use File  Export Audio or File  Export Video instead.

Project File

Output Folder

The path to the location where the project will be saved appears in this field. Click the three dots to the right of the field to browse to a different location. Check use location of current recording to save the project into the same folder as the recording.

File Name

The name for the project appears in this field. You can edit the name directly, or click the three dots to the right of the field to enter the name and path in a file selector. Check use name of current recording to derive the name from the recording. The file name ending is .vvproj.

Source Media

Check Include source media (self-contained project) to copy the original source media — for example the video clips a session was assembled from — into the project itself. The project then stays valid even if the originals are moved, renamed, or deleted, and you can copy it to another computer as a single file. The trade-off is size: a self-contained project is as large as the media it contains.

Leave the box unchecked to reference the source media where it currently is. The project stays small, but it depends on those files remaining in place.

The edited audio is stored inside the project either way. This option only concerns the original media files.

Press Save to write the project.
