Frequently asked questions
Configuration
- What are the system requirements for running VoceVista Video?
- VoceVista Video runs on macOS and Windows. See the download page for the detailed requirements for your system.
- Is there a mobile version for smartphones and tablets?
- Not yet, but we are working on it.
- What kind of microphone should I use?
- The built-in mic of a modern laptop is fine to get started, especially on a Mac. A cheap USB condenser like the Samson GoMic is a small step up, and a calibrated measurement microphone is a much bigger one. For specific picks across the price range, see our microphone recommendations.
Product editions
- What is the difference between Overtone Analyzer and VoceVista Video?
- These used to be different products by different teams. Overtone Analyzer 4.0 was created by Bodo Maass and Wolfgang Saus (Sygyt Software), while the original VoceVista 3.3 was created by Don Miller and Richard Horne. Since version 5.0 both share the same code and interface; they are simply different editions of the same software with different feature sets. See the Products page for a comparison.
Organization
- What is the relationship between sygyt.com and vocevista.com?
- sygyt.com is the website of Sygyt Software, the company that develops VoceVista Video. vocevista.com is the website of VoceVista LLC, our partner company that sells the EGG (Electroglottograph) hardware together with the VoceVista software.
Trial version
- My trial has expired, but I didn't have time to look at the program.
- Please follow our guide for requesting an extension of your trial period.
Licensing
- Does the single-user license allow both a desktop and a laptop installation?
- Yes. The software is licensed per user, so if you are the only user you may install it on two computers.
- Can I use the software on a Mac and a PC?
- Yes. The same license works on both platforms.
- My computer is used by several people. Do I need a multi-user license?
- No. Like a book that only one person reads at a time, software on a single computer is used by one person at a time, so one license for that computer is enough. If you want to install it on multiple computers used by different people at the same time, each person needs their own license. In an organization, consider a multi-user license.
- Can I transfer my license to a different computer?
- Yes. In the program, click Help ▸ Manage License and then Revoke License. This removes the license from that computer so you can activate it on another. With a multi-user license you also get a web interface to revoke a license remotely.
- I need to reinstall, but my license key has reached its activation limit.
- Open the upgrade page; after entering your email address and activation code you can see your license status and reset the activation counter.
- I have lost my license key. Can you help?
- Please contact us at info@sygyt.com and we will resend it. It is faster if you use or indicate the original email address from your purchase.
- How can I download the software again?
- Just download it again from the download page. Note that you may need a renewal license to activate the latest version if your license is older than 12 months; you can always get the version that works with your license on the upgrade page.
- Can I use the software on a computer that is not connected to the internet?
- Yes. This requires activating your license from a second computer that does have a network connection. Please contact us about offline activation for details.
Ordering
- How can I order VoceVista Video and Overtone Analyzer?
- Go to the order page and choose the edition you want. Orders are processed by our payment processor FastSpring through a secure website.
- What happens after I place an order?
- As soon as your payment arrives you get an email with your personal license key to activate the software. The computer running the software needs an internet connection for activation.
- Can I upgrade my existing license to a higher edition?
- Yes. For example, to go from Overtone Analyzer to VoceVista Video you pay the difference between the editions. Open License Upgrades and enter your email address and activation code to see your options.
- Where is my invoice?
- The email containing your activation code also contains a link to your invoice as a PDF.
- My organization is tax exempt. How do I make an order?
- Select the payment type "invoice" and follow the payment link in the order to submit your tax-exemption documents before paying. If you already ordered and want to reclaim the tax, submit a request to FastSpring and they will refund it.
- What are your terms and conditions?
- The software is licensed under our license agreement. Orders are handled by FastSpring (their terms of sale). See also our privacy policy and FastSpring's.
- How can I get a quote for your software?
- Open the order page, click any "Buy" button, choose "quote" as the payment type and proceed.
Updates
- After one year of use, can I continue without renewing the license?
- Yes. You can keep using your current version indefinitely and the license does not expire. Only upgrading to the latest version requires a paid renewal (see below).
- Are the updates free?
- A license for Overtone Analyzer or VoceVista Video includes free updates for one year from purchase. After that, a renewal license costs 25% of the current new-license price for another year of updates and support, or 50% if you have not upgraded for four years or longer. See License Upgrades.
- Can I change my PC license to the Mac version?
- Yes. In fact, all newer licenses work on both systems by default. If your old license is still system-specific, it converts to a multi-platform license with your next upgrade.
Installation
- I cannot install the software because of error messages.
- On Windows this is most likely your virus scanner blocking an unfamiliar installer. Temporarily disable the virus scanner, install again, then turn it back on.
- My virus scanner says VoceVista Video might be insecure. Does it have a virus?
- Almost certainly not. We take great care that our software is clean, but scanners occasionally report a false positive. If this happens, let us know and we will contact the scanner vendor. Make sure your setup file is digitally signed by us and came from this website.
Documentation
- Is there a downloadable version of the documentation for offline reading?
- Yes. It is installed with VoceVista Video (open it from Help ▸ Help Topics). You can also download a PDF of the user manual.
Troubleshooting
- I cannot record any sound.
- Please follow our guide for troubleshooting audio input.
